about

TERR106:

The elusive Tokyo, Japan based producer, DJ and photographer SMYTHSONS bestows us with a dazzling flash from the newest alliance on Terranean Recordings. The first track "Machinery Iterations" bends club blueprints with its angular, abstract funk of neck-snap subs and chirping stabs. "Tenacious Phasings" morphs messed-up techno fragments and fires frantic melodies into a queasy tussle.

SMYTHSONS is on a pursuit of "bare" music, which he deems an incisive jab at traditional musical recognition and structure. His abnormal practices and application of aesthetics to machines combine ferocious non-linear edits and crossfiring conversions by contorting approachable dance loops in a way something akin to the composing methods of the influential Raymond Roussel.

SMYTHSONS regards landmark inventions like synthesizers, recording media and stereo-sound image not only a medium to express human emotions, but an important turn to overthrow long-established musical recognition, concept and aesthetics. His operations sidestep niches like euclidean- or polyrhythmic music as he forges his own unique methods to head his contemporaries into new realms of complex dance music.
